TAO Socials

Bitcoin turned stranded energy (cheap or unused electricity in remote places) into a global network by rewarding the people who put that energy to work securing the chain. Bittensor does the same with stranded talent. Skilled people and spare computing power anywhere in the world can plug in as 'miners', compete to produce useful AI work, and get paid in TAO according to how well they perform.

Bitcoin's incentives built the world's most powerful computing network without a central company owning it. Bittensor's incentives coordinate global talent into productive AI output.

Bittensor is a big online network that connects people who want to do AI-related work with organisations that need that work done. Think of the workers, called miners, as freelancers who take on tasks set by one of around 128 specialised teams (called subnets) on the network.

Whoever solves a task best gets checked by evaluators and rewarded with the network's token, TAO, according to how that team chooses to split the rewards. At its core, it's a simple incentive system: good work earns payment. Anyone from anywhere, with any background, can contribute. There are no tests or interviews, just the completion of the task.

Like Bitcoin, TAO has a fixed supply of 21 million and uses open competition plus rewards to coordinate work. But it isn't primarily a currency the way most altcoins are.

Instead, TAO powers a network of incentive protocols: around 128 specialised subnets (think of them as independent AI companies or teams) that each define their own tasks, compete for a share of the rewards and produce real work output that already generates external revenue. Each subnet also has its own token, so value and incentives can form both at the overall network level and inside each individual marketplace.

Bittensor is an open network that gives AI start-ups and teams access to a large, decentralised pool of contributors. Essentially, it's a free, global team of workers (called miners) who compete to fulfil the specific tasks those teams set. The network rewards the best solutions with its token, TAO, based on how well the work is judged.

These companies, also called subnets, cover practical AI needs such as inference, pre-training and post-training, raw compute and time-series modelling, plus many more that don't entirely have to fit the AI criteria. The result is an incentive-driven marketplace that lets AI projects tap into talent and resources they might not otherwise afford.
